Getting Started
Solving problems at their root is tricky. The store is meant to save you a bunch of time figuring out which products are best. Use it as a starting place. We've tried almost all of these products, most of which are from Amazon or TruTech Tools. If you buy anything, we get a small cut, so thanks!
The first step to solving a problem is understanding what's wrong, when, and where. These tools can help.

DIY
We're big on doing it yourself. Our plans show what makes sense to do yourself, and what you should leave to the pros. The stuff here can help save you money while you make your house cozier and healthier.
Three things are most important in almost every Home Performance project: air sealing, air sealing, and air sealing. Make your house tighter, and you can solve almost anything. This stuff helps.
If a new stove, fridge, washer, dryer, or so forth is on the horizon, this category can help you understand what to look for.
OK, we kinda lied. Controlling moisture in your house is actually the first thing to do. Bathroom and kitchen fans are big players on that front. If your bath and kitchen fans don't vent outdoors, fix it. Stat.
Moisture, part deux. If you have water in your basement, it needs to be addressed. It may be as simple as fixing gutters or adding dirt against the house.
Thankfully, new LED bulbs are actually good, not the awful squiggly ones we know we're supposed to like but we all hate. Start here in the hunt for ones you like.

If you want to get confused, get a few quotes from HVAC contractors. You're likely to get a bunch of conflicting opinions. This section can help clear through a little confusion. Fresh air is a good thing in every home. As homes get tighter, it gets even more important. There are lots of ways to get fresh air from your HVAC system. Here are a few.
This is not a DIY section, use a contractor for this stuff. This listing will at least give you a basic idea of types of equipment. Most manufacturers don't sell directly to consumers online.
Adding and subtracting moisture is very important to comfort. And preventing health problems like frequent illness, pests, or mold.
Three Words: Heat Pump Water Heaters. OK, four words.
We think all gas water heaters suck. They cause a lot of problems in Home Performance retrofits. That's our bias. That said, here are some products to consider. Please DO NOT buy a standard gas water heater, though, your odds are 50%+ it will backdraft after upgrades and you'll have to replace it. We hate those conversations, and hence gas water heaters... So check these out first.
