Problems We Can Help With.

Clients all have different goals in mind. Home Performance is the root of many problems in your home. Here are the most common things you might think of or be coming to us for, then some less common ones. If done with careful design, it is possible to substantially fix ALL of these issues simultaneously. Shocking, I know. But true.

Fix Comfort Problems – Rooms That Are Too Hot or Cold

Does the second floor of your home roast in the summer and freeze in the winter? Are you tired of living with that? Do you have an addition that just won’t stay comfortable? We can help diagnose the causes and provide solutions. You don’t need to sweat or shiver, in fact those are signs of poor efficiency. We find that if we solve for comfort first, lower energy bills just come with it.

Icicles and Ice Dams

If you have icicles and ice dams, it is a sign that all is not well with your home. Besides the danger of denting cars (or worse, people) when icicles fall, your roof is likely being rotted out, making it’s replacement more expensive. It is also a major sign of heat leaking out of the home (why else would ice melt?) You also likely have a room or floor that is not as comfortable as it could be because of that leaking heat. Insulation, along with ventilation, are the root causes of icicles and ice dams. We can help diagnose the causes and propose solutions, then help you get the work done.

Fix High Energy Bills

Do you feel like your energy bills are too high? As part of our initial consulations, we examine your energy bills and tell you how your home stacks up. We’ll help you come up with plans that not only make your home substantially more comfortable, while saving you 30-70% on your energy bills in the process. Better yet, we’ll make predictions as to how much you’ll save, and most importantly, we’ll follow up to see if we were correct.

Tangibly Help the Environment

Our homes and our cars are the two big energy users we have control over. Our homes use about twice as much energy as one car. It’s a warm fuzzy for most clients, but fixing your home is a real step towards putting a dent in climate change or achieving energy independence (depending on your political leanings.)  We can even help you towards being Net Zero by reducing your energy use before installing solar panels or other renewable options.

Little known problems we can help with

In Home Performance when you reach a tipping point, a whole lot of different things get fixed simultaneously, just like losing weight gives you more energy and helps you sleep better (note to self). Here are some lesser known things that are affected by upgrades, or may be a goal of yours that you had no idea Home Performance measures could fix.

Indoor Air Quailty Problems

Do you notice smells lingering in certain parts of your home? Does someone in your family have allergies or asthma that is worse at home than it is outdoors? Have you noticed getting sick more often since moving to a new home. It is a little known fact that the air inside your home is substantially less healthy than the air outside it. We can help you get to the bottom of your problem, we even offer IAQ testing, and propose solutions.

Mold & Moisture

Do you have a whole mold colony in your attic? Musty smells in your basement or crawlspace? Streaks in walls and ceilings from icicles? They all have their root in poor Home Performance. We do Home Performance. So yep, pretty sure we can help.

Noise Reduction

Can you hear the neighbors argue? (Or vice versa…) Does traffic noise annoy you? Does your furnace or AC sound like a 747 taking off, interrupting conversations? Insulation reduces sound transmission, and newer, smaller furnaces and air conditioners are substantially quieter than older ones. Noise and vibration are substantial parts of Indoor Environmental Quality, and we can help.

Pest Control

Do you get a lot of creepy crawlies in the basement? Do mice party in your basement and attic? Do ants take over like at a picnic in spring and fall? Believe it or not, insulation and air sealing, as well as your furnace and AC, can help.
